Saint peter[note 1] (born shimon bar yonah; 1 bc – ad 64/68), [1] also known as peter the apostle, simon peter, simeon, simon, or cephas, was one of the twelve apostles of jesus. Peter, originally named simon, is one of the most prominent figures in the new testament and a leading apostle of jesus christ.

In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of jesus christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.
